Are you aching for a weekend getaway this season? It is about time! How long has it been since you relaxed, went on an adventure with the family or took some time to spend with your sweetheart? Well, that’s too long! Here are 7 ideas for weekend getaways that you have to try before your retirement years.

1. Exotic Second Honeymoon

Even if you’re already married, you simply have to try the second honeymoon vacation. It spices up your love life and gives you the chance to see beautiful locations such as Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas and all the other exotic locations mentioned in the well-known song. Make sure the location has a beach—this makes or breaks the deal!

2. Romantic Third Honeymoon

This is a bit more local and not as expensive, but if romance is the issue, then staying at a nice hotel for a few days with optional massage treatment and on-site spa and beauty treatment is just what the love doctor ordered.

3. Family Adventure

Take the kids and the spouse to a family adventure, whether your pleasure is skiing, hiking, camping or swimming. Keep everyone active and focus more on the activities and the conversation rather than the commercial aspects of a theme park.

4. Theme Park Adventure

Since you mention it though, it is a good idea to hit one of the major theme parks at least once in a lifetime. Take the kids to see the big cartoon characters when they’re young and then scare the life out of them with the roller coaster parks when they’re teens!

5. Nature Appreciation

Whether you want to instill religious appreciation in your kids or just emphasize an ecological responsibility, wildlife parks, nature hikes and botanic gardens make the point better than anything on the Discovery Channel can.

6. Stag or Stagette Party

This is not one for the kids, but if you have a group of longtime guy (or girl) friends and want to party like you’re in college again, then take the stag party adventure. These mainly involve hitting some clubs, bars and sometimes taking part in hard-hitting sports activities. Cancun and Hawaii bring a touch of the exotic to your stag plans.

7. The Exotic Overseas Adventure

You’re not going to go overseas every year, but you owe it to the family to see at least one world-famous location before the kids grow up. Take your pick: Rome, Ireland, Barcelona, Egypt, London, and China.

You only live once so try to see the world by taking every sort of vacation!

Who doesn’t enjoy an adventure? Adventure travel trips are easy to book online and very exhilarating to most vacationers. The challenge comes in identifying exactly what sort of “adventure” you want on your vacation. Some travelers are not content to sit on a beach or stay in a five star hotel and call that an adventure. Some want to truly test their mental and physical capacity by traveling to a location that is truly exotic, adrenaline pumping and just a little bit “dangerous.” Where are the best locations to go?

Let’s first try and determine where you are in terms of danger-seeking. There are plenty of locations in the U.S. and throughout the world that are “dangerous” and thrilling without being literally dangerous and scary. First off, let’s review a list of legitimate dangerous places you want to avoid at all costs (regardless of the free drinks you get for staying at the hotel). Forget about countries like Afghanistan, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Georgia, Haiti, Iraq, Liberia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Somalia, the Sudan and Zimbabwe. These are countries you probably can’t get to anyway, given the travel warnings out for them.

On the other hand, faraway locations that might seem a little dangerous are actually quite safe and these include countries like Australia, China, Cuba, Costa Rica, Amsterdam, Thailand and Egypt. You might also find a particular challenge in conquering the rough and icy cold terrain of Alaska or Canada, or seeing inactive volcanoes in Hawaii.

That said, there are just as many continental U.S. locations to enjoy that offer a whiff of danger and adventure, but are still safe for the whole family. These include states like Wyoming and Colorado who offer skiing and ice climbing and states like California and Utah that offer rock climbing. You could even find time to hit states like Oregon and Texas for BMX biking.

If all else fails, then go to one of the major theme parks in the U.S., including Six Flags, Sea World, Disney World and Busch Gardens. Last but not least, if you’re feeling particularly strong and unbreakable head over to an Antarctica tour and make peace with the penguins. There is always an adventure out there whether traveling in the U.S. or overseas!

What Hotel Features Are Important for Business Travel?

What hotel or resort features are important for business travel? There is a big difference between business travelers and vacationers—travelers away on business aren’t necessarily thrilled about their destination, but want to make the best of it. Meanwhile, vacationers are happy go lucky and just want to live in a time capsule!

However, if you are away on business, then business always has to come first. Therefore, the best features will not necessarily be luxury and fun diversions, but items that will keep you connected to the business world. For example, every hotel you consider should have high-speed Internet access. You should be able to login to your email or any public or private website using a laptop computer. (Remember when traveling to bring a long a flash drive of any files you might need, or store them remotely at a private storage site.)

You can also benefit from a work desk, a feature that is becoming increasingly common even for standard hotel rooms. Some hotel rooms offer fax machines, copiers or even full PCs in their units, while others simply have a business center on the premises. This is not a big issue, as you can easily walk over to the center to run business errands. However, not having Internet access in the room can make your stay a bit frustrating. Other features to look out for include laundry services, secretarial services and of course room service (24 hours if possible) because coffee in the morning always helps!

If you are traveling in a group then your company may find it useful to rent a conferencing room or meeting room to discuss business matters. Some rooms are quite bare, having only a few extra chairs, while others are truly lavish and offer audio and visual equipment for teleconferencing and professional presentation.

Last but not least, don’t forget the personal amenities. All work and no play makes you dull, right? So try and find a business hotel that offers an on-site gym (work off that stress) and a wellness center that offers massage, spa treatment, sauna and solariums. Take a dip in the swimming pool too! Hey, it’s business related! You need to cool down, right? Search for these amenities and your business trip will go “swimmingly.”

Europe travel is indeed beautiful. The continent of Europe encompasses the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia territory. It is surrounded by large bodies of water such as the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the most beautiful regions in the world are located in Europe, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Romania and France.

Some of the most popular individual sites in the continent include Paris, France, the romantic capital of the world, as well as beautiful Barcelona, the majesty of London, the rolling hills of Ireland, the sacredness of Rome, as well as the “real sin city” in Amsterdam. Besides the natural amenities such as sandy beaches, epic scenery and legendary historical sites, guests can also enjoy some of the most luxurious amenities ever created for resorts and hotels in Europe.

Hotels in Europe contain many European, Asian and Middle Eastern pleasures not usually known to Americans, such as Turkish baths, marble bathrooms, castles and ancient decorations, celebrating the empires of old. Many of the hotels and resorts you find in Europe will offer upscale amenities such as private bathrooms, elegant architecture and interiors, cable and satellite TV and 24-hour room service. The amenities of the hotel may be even greater, and include privileges like swimming pools, Roman baths, sports activities, game rooms, trucking, biking, fitness centers and on-site dining and drinking.

The nightlife in Europe is indeed “cracking” and it’s not uncommon to find some rowdy stag and stagette parties in the city areas. On the other hand, Europe can be just as family-friendly as a major suburban city and feature entertainment shows, historical exhibits and even academic attractions.

Geographically speaking, this continent lies in temperate climate zones, and that means it can be easily affected by western weather. Climate, in general, is usually mild and slightly humid, thanks to heating from the Gulf Stream. For example, in Naples the usual temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Still, for January weather in Berlin the average is about 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you are interested in traveling to Europe, look online for package deals or on travel sites for last minute individual bookings. The beauty and serenity of Europe awaits you!

Are you thinking of going on vacation? What’s stopping you? The bad economy? Oh, don’t worry about it! The country is always going to be facing economic challenges but vacation memories are going to last you a lifetime. Come on now, would you rather take your kids to see Mickey Mouse or Barack Obama? Live a little! In case you’re tapping your fingers about now, here are five cheap travel tips that can help you save money.

1. Rent a car rather than fly.

It may sound pricey at first, but even after you total up the gasoline and car rental bills, you will still probably be paying less than you would for regulary priced airfare. You might also consider renting a car rather than using expensive airport shuttle services. Take advantage of coupons to save big on the rental fee.

2. Make sure the kids eat…for free!

Don’t underestimate the cost savings that come from hotels that let kids stay for free or eat for free. If you have a family of two or more children, then just that concession alone can save you a substantial amount. (P.S. kids tend to lose their appetite when they’re excited, so this way no food goes to waste!)

3. Buy cheap lunches and dinners.

You can eat out some of the time but do you really need to eat out all of the time? You can save literally hundreds of dollars by buying easy snacks, healthier cooking meals and cheap lunches at home from the local grocery store. (Yes, it’s wise to shop locally if possible, so you can avoid paying inflated grocery costs in the destination city.)

4. Learn to love the coupon.

Don’t assume that the in the almighty Internet age that coupons are a thing of the past. Paper coupons and Internet coupons can save you a bundle. Some coupons will only cut 5% of the bill…but other coupons could upgrade your room, let you stay an extra night or even provide a hard-to-get 50% discount on the total price.

5. Entertain yourself with low cost and free attractions, as much as possible.

Why pay for Disney-ville when you can visit a free beach, a free or low cost wildlife park or simply gaze at the relaxing scenery of a river? Remember too that many entertainment shows and historical sites are free. Free stuff certainly cuts down on your vacation bill!

What can you expect when you go on island travel? Whether you are going to celebrate in Hawaii, Maui, Aruba or are going on an adventure at the U.S. Virgin Islands or St. Barthelemy, there’s no vacation like an island vacation. An island vacation is something more than just a beach party or a stay in a luxurious hotel. Something about an island just brings out our primal selves, our lust for adventure and our yearning for cultural understanding.

How should you go about planning your island experience? If possible find an island with great natural resources like crystal clear water, waterfalls and tropical temperatures. Some islands offer private spots for you and your party, which is definitely far more relaxing than a beach. Some travelers like islands because they are more environmentally friendly than a typical resort. Some travelers enjoy getting back to nature, forsaking luxurious hotels for tents, living off the land, as it were. There’s no question that some island hotels offer a more secluded atmosphere than you can find anywhere in the city.

What are some of the most popular activities at an island vacation? Diving, scuba diving and snorkeling are favorite recreational pastimes, as is hiking, and taking tours of natural phenomenon. (Like volcano tours.) It’s really up to each vacation party to determine their style of island adventure, whether it’s quiet and relaxing or busy and exciting. Some travelers enjoy bar hopping on the island, and drinking good quality wine under the night sky. Some prefer dining in an upscale restaurant while others are happy feasting on fruit and homemade meals. Popular dishes from island resorts include fish tacos, “fusion” food, Continental favorites, dim sum and of course, tropical fruit.

When creating your ideal island adventure, first choose your destination area. Be sure to research the land and determine (A) if it is safe this time of year, (B) if it is affordable with your budget and (C) if the island’s activities sound appealing to you and the family (or group of friends).

You may find a better deal if you book an island package deal instead of trying to reserve airfare and hotel stay on your own. Plus, if you choose a resort location, you get free entertainment and other amenities. An island adventure will never be forgotten!

Despite all of America’s economic upheaval it is still the heart and pulse of the Western world. Millions of tourists from all over the world are excited to travel to America and take in the beautiful scenery, the favorite Americana pastimes, and enjoy the free world’s marvelous excess and entertainment. What are some of the most popular locations in the lower 48 states? (Alaska and Hawaii truly deserve their own category.)

There are many national parks that are incomparable in their natural beauty, including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado and Yosemite National Park in California. Other iconic locations that deserve mention include the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and Niagara Falls in New York.

When it comes to entertainment, it’s hard to beat Las Vegas, Nevada or either of the big Disney locations, such as Walt Disney World in Florida or Disney Land in California. While not official “sites” you wouldn’t truly enjoy the classic American experience without taking in a baseball game, football game or basketball game courtesy of the NBA, MLB and NFL. You can also catch numerous festivals and fairs occurring almost every week at various cities across the United States.

Music is also a cultural must-see in the U.S., so make plans to travel to a concert and listen to an orchestra or perhaps one of your favorite bands. Witnessing a marching band is also a very American experience and something that has to be seen to be believed.

Notable historical landmarks include Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, Hollywood, California (where classic movie moments are born) the one and only New York City, which is the home to many significant events, including TV and movies, and Williamsburg, Virginia where you can experience reenactments of significant events in America’s birth. Lastly, if you’re in the mood for a bit of the paranormal, be sure to journey to legendary “haunt” locations like Roswell, New Mexico, New Orleans, Louisiana and Galveston, Texas.

You can book a trip to the United States on your own, or pay a flat rate for a package vacation or contact a travel agency to help you organize an America travel tour.

Travel tours are known all over the world and essentially refer to vacations with specific intent in mind. These culturally significant vacations have also been called adjectival tourism. For example, if your family were interested in Florida’s history, they might look for a Florida historical tour. If you were single and interested in meeting exotic new people, then a Madrid nightlife tour might be appropriate.

There are actually many types of adjectival tourism or specialty travel services. Besides the usual historical tour or nightlife tour, in recent years new types of tours have become popular with serious minded travelers. These include agricultural tours, religious tours, heritage and cultural tours, medical tours, culinary tours and wildlife tours.

There may be tours that cater to a specific lifestyle such as LGBT tours, or adult tours, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, Christian living tours. There are three new types of tours that are worth mentioning because of increasing popularity. First, you have eco tours. Ecotourism appeals to environmentally conscious travelers and showcases protected areas that are considered fragile and pristine. Instead of heavy commercial areas to enjoy, there are natural parks, rivers, wildlife and scenery to take in. More importantly, money generated from these tours usually goes towards ecological conservation, and other related fields concerning energy efficiency, water conservation and recycling.

Next are academic tours, which cater to a more intellectually sophisticated audience, not to mention a physically fit customer base, who would travel to distant lands like Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands or Machu Picchu. While the sights and activities are exciting to see, these trips are particularly interesting to professors, scientists, archaeologists, geologists and other professional educators.

Another recent trend is that of dark tourism. This might include trips to “dark” historical locations, such as ancient or recent battlegrounds or sites where horrific acts of violence were committed. Less gruesome and more fun are ghost tours, available in practically every city (since every city claims to be haunted somewhere) that usually includes walking tours of various dark locations like cemeteries, hotels, restaurants and historical monuments.

There is a tour for just about every niche out there, so no matter your pleasure, you can always find something to do in the city of your choice.

Travel packages are usually advertised as smarter, more economic choices when booking a vacation. After all, why go through the trouble of paying for multiple bookings when you can pay a flat rate and only be taxed and charged extra fees one time? That seems like a good idea in theory but let’s consider some reasons why some travelers still prefer individual bookings.

Bundled packages tend to be pricey, costing approximately a thousand dollars for even a relatively small vacation. This is because within this invoice are all charges relating to airfare, hotel stay, entertainment, rentals and sometimes meals. To the typical vacationer who has saved up a lot of money throughout the year, a flat rate of even a thousand or higher is cheap. This is because the yearly vacationer wants to try everything the tourist experience has to offer. He or she usually spends hundreds on meals, entertainment, rentals and other amenities besides hotel and airfare.

However, for the economic traveler, booking airfare and lodging through different sites might prove to be cheaper in the long run, especially if these vacationers put a cap on their entertainment and dining expenses. For example, searching in the off-season, you can sometimes find unadvertised hotel deals for literally 50-60% off regular price.

There are reasons why package vacations might be the preferred choice. Some vacationers would feel more secure if they were to stay at a resort. There is also more protection in a package deal financially. With individual booking one would have to constantly check up on each travel agency and each hotel or airline. A traveling package (often times organized by the same parent company) is reliable and up to date.

Lastly, you have to consider where the travel package is centered. Some destinations may be unavailable for an all-inclusive traveling deal and may only be reached by making individual hotel or airfare reservations. In the end, it all depends on the lifestyle and the budget you are aiming for.

Package deals are ideal for vacationers who want to enjoy their vacation fully, regardless of money, and also for families who want to take full advantage of the opportunity and make their dollar count, as it were. Determine your spending habits and make an informed choice.

Travel insurance is a policy that covers you in the event of any travel mishaps. Travel insurance is not standardized, but can vary from company to company. Most travel policies include coverage on possessions, luggage, your health (sickness and pharmacy needs), as well as emergency travel plans.

Traveler insurance may seem like a needless expenses—that is until you are actually faced with a nightmarish scenario. What if your valuable luggage was lost? What if you lost your medication in the bags you carry and need pharmaceutical drugs for your wellbeing?

What if you became deathly ill and have to see a doctor? What if for medical reasons or military reasons you have to be transported out of the country? Even if you recover from all of these problematic scenarios you might well have a stroke upon reading the bill! An insurance policy for travelers protects from all of these worries. Recently the number of travelers’ insurance policies has increased in America, over 30% since September 11th, 2001. Over 70% of travelers going on a cruise buy insurance.

Another reason to order a travel policy would be for trip cancellation. In some cases, your flight will be cancelled and there won’t be much you can do about it. In other cases, you might be the one reporting ill, and may want to cancel your trip within a short amount of time, too soon to get a refund. If your wallet or passport is stolen then a travel policy can help you get money and a substitute passport for the duration of your trip. (Note: not having a valid passport may be grounds to deny you reentry into your own country.)

Furthermore, if you discover that your upcoming trip will be marred by terrorist activity or nationalistic dispute, then you will need insurance. Your provider will not cancel the trip out of concern for your safety, nor refund you money. They will just assume you abandoned your ticket.

You will also need insurance if your provider goes out of business. (Yes it’s happened before.) The last thing you want is to be stuck in another country or worse yet, in an airport somewhere with no way to get home! Lastly, you will benefit from insurance if a natural disaster forces you to evacuate your hotel. These are all scenarios in which traveling insurance would be very beneficial.
